5 Ideas to Decorate & Organize a Small Bathroom

Small Bathroom Counter and Mirror

As strange as it may seem, a tidy and aesthetically pleasing house is key to creating a relaxed, safe feeling in your home. Since it’s often the room where you get ready for, and wind down from the day, there’s no better place to start than the bathroom. While some may have a small bathroom they find difficult to organize, it’s not the end of the world. We at The Polished Jar do everything we can to help turn your home into a haven, even in the small spaces. To get your organization project started, we’ve assembled a list of ideas to make the most of a tiny bathroom.

1. Settle on a Vibe

Before you read any of our other bathroom organization ideas, you need to decide on the type of room feel you’re going for. When dealing with a small room, every decision you make needs to be intentional if you want to make the most of your limited floor space. Before starting, there’s a number of questions you should ask yourself, and be able to answer with confidence. What style are you going for? Modern? Parisian? Rustic? What colors and patterns do you want to use? Do they agree with the style you’ve chosen?

It may seem overwhelming, but take each question one at a time. No matter how much trouble it is now, it’ll save you a lot of time, headaches, and do-overs in the future. Once you’ve decided your overall vibe, style, and color scheme, you’re ready to move on to the next step.

2. Streamline Your Counter

For most people, the first step in bathroom organization is to make the counter a bit more presentable. If you’re one of the people who rushes to get ready for work every morning, it’s easy to just leave stuff out, and before you know it, there’s a cluttered mess where the counter used to be. Figure out what absolutely must stay on the counter, and what can be stowed in a cabinet. The first step to organizing small spaces is to make sure only the essentials are taking up room.

While these essentials will vary from person to person, you’ll generally want easy access to your hair tools, makeup brushes and cotton balls, as well as lotion or soap. Of course, you’ll need an aesthetically pleasing way to place them. A pedestal sink can really bring out the best in a small room, but you have to consider the associated lack of counter space. Wall mounts for your essentials can be an easy solution to this. As for the essentials themselves, consider storing your soap and lotion in our luxury soap dispensers, as well as a Fayette Hand Towel for a pop of color.

3. Adapt to the Layout

As mentioned earlier, you need to use all the floor space you have effectively, down to the last inch. Unless you’re doing a full-on remodel, there will be several elements that can’t be changed or moved, meaning the rest of your home decor will be centered around them. Among these elements are the sink, shower, flooring, and bathtub, which aren’t difficult to design around, but require careful planning nonetheless.

Fortunately, we have designed products for an array of styles, so no matter what you need, you’re sure to find it! Does your bathroom have a more modern aesthetic to it? Go with our Minimalist Glass Soap Bottles! Feeling a more rustic vibe? Add an Acacia Wood Tray to spice things up! No matter what, we’ve got something for everyone.

4. Touch Up the Bath

Nothing’s more relaxing than a long, warm bath at the end of the day, but it could be even better. For an easy first step, try swapping out those boring old bottles your soap came in. Not only do they create more clutter, but they’re also just an overall eyesore as well. Instead, try using one of our Signature Shower Bundles in conjunction with a Portico Tray for a true sense of elegance and refinement.

5. Have Fun!

As a budding interior designer, your first instinct may be to view home organization as a checklist of tasks to run through, but there’s a fatal flaw in this mindset: you’re supposed to enjoy the process! The purpose of interior design is to create a living space you can be happy with and relax in, so stressing to get everything perfect down to the last detail defeats the purpose entirely. It doesn’t have to be perfect, and you don’t need to follow anyone’s advice to the letter, either. This process is for you, not anyone else, so just do what makes you happy!
