If you have a small kitchen with minimal storage space, don’t lose hope! With a bit of organization and elegant decor, you can utilize a small space and still enjoy it for many years to come.

Here at The Polished Jar, we want to help you discover the function and beauty of your home. With carefully curated home decor and smart storage solutions, you can certainly change up the way you feel toward a certain area in your home.

Note that the following organizational tips would also work well for a tiny bathroom. After all, small bathrooms and kitchens deserve some love, too!

1. Declutter & Get Organized

To maximize the space in a small kitchen, start the process by organizing all of your existing kitchen supplies. For instance, perhaps you have multiple sets of measuring cups? Keep only one of those sets. And be sure to sift through any kitchen items you already own to determine what you should keep. Discard any item that’s broken or barely gets used in your kitchen.

Once you declutter and purge items, organizing a small space will become easier!

2. Display Practical Items as Decor

Sometimes, the most practical items make the most beautiful decor. In a small kitchen, take advantage of turning some of your practical pieces into beautiful decor. For example, hang your metal utensils near the stove. Or opt to display your beautiful plates, cups, and other unique items, such as The Polished Jar’s bamboo Pot Scrub Brush, wood-based Bedford Brush, or beech wood Essex Dish Brush, on open shelves or next to the kitchen sink. These simple storage solutions can make a small space feel open and cohesive.

Now, you’ll be able to see your household items more clearly!

3. Maintain a Neutral Color Scheme

For a small space, a neutral color scheme goes a long way to making a room feel open and inviting, especially if you don’t have a ton of natural light streaming into the room. To keep a neutral color palette, consider using light paint colors for your small kitchen or bathroom, such as off-white or beige. And feel free to decorate with a few black and white, or neutral-toned, accessories, baskets, or containers.

We suggest the black and white Luxe engraved glass soap bottles for a chic, clean look near the sink, the lightweight, artisanal Remy Hand Towel for extra flair in the kitchen, and the Soho Sponge + Soap Tray for a crisp, modern vibe.

No matter what, using a neutral color palette in your small room should make it feel lighter and brighter!

4. Reserve Counter Space

In a small kitchen or bathroom, counter space proves to be especially valuable. If you have adequate storage in your shelves and cabinets, certainly use that for storage space as well. But, you can reserve counter space for essential, larger kitchen appliances, such as a toaster or coffee maker. For bathroom decor, you may want to feature just a few simple items, like a neutral-colored soap tray or this beautiful white and gold ring dish, on the countertop.

Regardless, avoid overcrowding the counters in a small kitchen or bathroom, as it could create unnecessary clutter.

5. Get Creative With Storage Spaces

When it comes to choosing storage solutions for your small kitchen, you have to get creative with your organization and decor. But let’s not forget some simple bathroom organization ideas.

In both a kitchen and small bathroom design, utilize any space under the sink, since it happens to be prime real estate. Gather together your cleaning products and bulky appliances, like your blender or hair tools.

6. Stick to Small Maintenance Habits

Finally, a fantastic way to enjoy your small kitchen more frequently is to keep it clean regularly. Incorporating a few routine maintenance habits, such as taking out the garbage, unloading the dishwasher, wiping the countertops, or organizing your spices and cleaning products, will ensure you have a kitchen you can enjoy.

Having a small kitchen or bathroom doesn’t have to feel overwhelming and cluttered. If storage space is limited, get creative with your organization and home decor. Fortunately, all of these tips are easy to accomplish in a short amount of time.

Your home should feel like a haven. At The Polished Jar, we thrive on offering numerous handpicked, high-quality items that you and your home can enjoy for years to come. We hope you find decor inspiration in one of the beautiful items we offer in our online store.
